Water was pumped out of Dublin Airport’s €5 million new reservoir for the first time yesterday.
The test pump was part of the commissioning for the new reservoir, which is due to come into service later this month.
Water was pumped out of the reservoir yesterday into part of a new water distribution system. It was then siphoned off before it entered Dublin Airport’s drinking water system.
The new reservoir can hold 14.5 million litres of water and is currently half full. The second half of the reservoir will be filled over the coming days.
Before the reservoir is filled, it is carefully washed with a chlorine solution to sanitise the concrete walls and floor of the facility, which is comprised of two separate underground water tanks.
Next week, lab tests will begin to ensure that the water meets all of the required standards. The quality of the water in the new reservoir will be tested for two weeks and tests will also be carried out at the old reservoir for benchmarking purposes.
The new reservoir, which is located near SR Technics` Hangar 6 on Castlemoate Road, is being built as part of the DAA’s €2 billion Transforming Dublin Airport investment programme.
More than €25 million is being invested in utilities this year as the DAA
improves the water, gas, electricity and communications networks at the
airport.
