The two escalators for the Terminal One Extension arrived onsite late last week and are currently being installed.
The two escalators travelled to Dublin arrived from an Otis factory in the Czech Republic. Each escalator was lifted by crane onto a specially constructed scaffold platform on the Departures level before being carefully rolled into the T1X facility through the loading bay that had been left in the glazed façade for that purpose.
The escalators combine with a set of steel stairs and a glass walled panoramic lift to allow passengers access the new catering mezzanine area within the T1X facility.
With the escalators are in place, work is now underway to complete the glass façade of T1X by enclosing the gap that was required for the installation of the escalators.
The €55m Terminal One Extension project is part of the DAA’s Transforming Dublin Airport programme. The extension, which is due to open next May, will radically improve the passenger journey to Pier A and Pier D with addition circulation space and new airside retail and food and beverage outlets.
