Apron Phase 6B, the final element of the massive Apron 6 development at Dublin Airport, was handed over today.
The 6B handover marks the end of an 18-month construction programme by contractor Clare Civil, under the management of the DAA.
The project was delivered on time, despite two of the worst summers in living memory at Dublin Airport. The new apron area is located west of the crosswind runway, to the southwest of Pier D.
The Apron 6 project was the largest apron development ever undertaken at Dublin Airport. Apron 6 has about 180,000 sq metres of new concrete, which means it is almost two and a half times larger than Dundrum Shopping Centre.
Apron Phase 6C became operational in April of this year and delivered an extra eight parking stands for short-haul aircraft. Phase 6A, which was handed over in June, delivered 13 new aircraft parking stands for short-haul planes in an area that can also be used to park up to six long-haul aircraft. Apron Phase 6B has two parking stands for short-haul planes.
