First Crane At T2 Site

Crawler Crane At T2 Site

A 25-metre high crane arrived at the T2 construction site today to help with building the concrete foundations for the new energy centre.

The 100-tonne Liebherr crawler crane is being used to lift temporary steel frames into place to allow for the construction of the energy centre’s concrete foundations. The crane, which is being used by T2 sub-contractor Laing O’Rourke, is expected to be onsite for about 12 weeks. The energy centre is located at the east end of the T2 site close to the hangar currently occupied by Ryanair.

The energy centre is an integral part of the overall €609 million Terminal 2 construction project. Apart from the €395 million new passenger terminal, and the new energy centre, the T2 project also includes a new boarding gate facility Pier E and an upgrade of the airport’s campus road network.

Construction work on T2 started last October. The new terminal will be completed in late 2009 and will open to the public in April 2010, after commissioning and testing.
