A 64-metre long services bridge that will connect Terminal Two's energy centre with the main terminal building is currently under construction at the T2 offsite compound close to the ALSAA complex at Dublin Airport.
The bridge, which is currently in three sections, will be lifted into place over the October Bank Holiday weekend. Mechanical and electrical services are currently being installed on the three sections of the bridge. The largest section is 27 metres long, 6 metres wide and 3 metres high.
The bridge was pre-fabricated in three sections at Milltown Engineering in Carlow, which is the steel contractor for the energy centre project, and was then transported to the T2 offsite compound. The bridge was assembled at the compound over the past three weeks.
The bridge is due to be loaded onto articulated trailers and transported to the T2 site after midnight on Friday, October 24. Weather permitting, preparations will then be made to begin the lift at first light on the morning of Saturday, October 25.
It is hoped that the three sections of the bridge will be lifted into final position within one day in what is expected to be the largest single lifting operation at T2.
The bridge will connect the T2 energy centre and its combined heat and power plant (CHP) with the main terminal and is being installed by T2 energy centre contractor Leo Lynch.
