Transforming Dublin Airport

Transforming Passes Three Million Mark

More than three million man-hours have now been worked on the €2 billion Transforming Dublin Airport construction programme.

The three million hours worked mark was passed during April when almost 200,000 hours were worked on the various projects currently on-site at the airport. “This is another significant milestone on the road to delivering a better Dublin Airport,” said DAA's Director of Capital Programmes Mark Foley.

The number of hours worked is measured as part of the DAA’s programme-wide monthly safety report, which shows that despite the tragic fatality on an airport construction site earlier this year, the overall level of accidents on the Transforming Dublin Airport programme is very low. Typically on Irish construction sites there are about 1.9 reportable accidents for every 100,000 hours worked. However the DAA has clocked up its three million hours with just 0.49 reportable accidents for every 100,000 hours worked. A reportable accident is one that causes a worker to be absent for three or more days as a result of the incident in question.

“Our aim is to make the Transforming Dublin Airport programme one of the safest places to work in the Irish construction industry, and we will continue to put safety at the top of our agenda,” Foley said.
