The first elements of structural steel for the main T2 terminal building were erected on Wednesday May 14.
In recent weeks, construction workers have been building the new T2 baggage hall, which is much smaller than the terminal building proper. The steel at the baggage hall is just nine metres high, while the frame of the terminal proper will rise to about 24 metres. The true scale of T2 will become apparent over the coming days and weeks as the large steel frame will dwarf Pier C behind it.
Workers are now building the frame of the main passenger processor that will include the departure lounge and retail areas and the baggage reclaim area. The check-in area for T2, which will be located on the other side of Corballis Road South - the main access road to the airport - will be connected to the rest of the building by a bridge that forms the centrepiece of the new terminal.
