Steel Up At Terminal One Extension

The first steel column for T1X

The first elements of structural steel for the Terminal One Extension (T1X) were erected last night, two days ahead of schedule.

In a hugely complex task, the first two steel columns were successfully lowered into the existing link building arrivals corridor at Dublin Airport. The corridor is currently in use as it connects the Garda National Immigration Bureau area with the baggage hall and the new steel columns are initially being concealed in temporary encasements.

The €55 million extension to Terminal One will improve the passenger journey to Piers A and D by adding more circulation space, new airside retail and catering outlets, and a reconfigured check-in area at the northern end of the terminal. The new space will be handed over on a phased basis and will be fully complete by next summer.

McNamara Construction is the main contractor for the T1X project, while the steel for the job is coming from Northern Ireland based supplier Walter Watson. McNamara built the six bay extension to the existing terminal at Dublin Airport and Walter Watson supplied the structural steel for that job and for Pier D.
