British company Watson Steel has started to make the columns and beams for the frame of the check-in hall for Dublin Airport's new T2 passenger terminal.
Watson plants in Yorkshire and Lancashire and fabricating the steel, 80% of which comes from reclaimed sources.
Since Watson workers began erecting steel at the T2 construction site in late March, their work has concentrated on the main terminal building. But in a few weeks, the true shape of the entire terminal will begin to emerge, as work will start on building the steel frame of the T2 check-in hall.
The check-in hall sits at the front of the T2 construction site and will be linked to the main terminal building by a bridge that forms the central spine of T2. The bridge will span the main access road to Terminal One, as it will eventually pass through the centre of the new terminal.
Construction work on T2 started almost 11 months ago. The €395 million new terminal is due to completed in late 2009 and will open to the public in April 2010.
