Transforming Dublin Airport is a major investment programme to improve, expand and modernise Dublin Airport. The DAA is investing €2 billion in new and improved facilities to create a better airport for all its customers. We are aware that in recent years, Dublin Airport has sometimes failed to provide the type of travel experience that passengers want and we are investing heavily to build you a better airport. The Transforming programme puts the passenger at the heart of our improvement plans. During the first phase of the investment programme, which kicked off in 2006, we will invest more than €1.2 billion to radically improve the passenger experience at the airport. We need to expand because our passenger numbers have more doubled over the past 10 years. More than 23.2 million passengers used Dublin Airport during 2007 and we are now Europe’s eighth largest airport for international traffic. The Transforming programme is funded through a combination of passenger charges and commercial revenue. The DAA receives no direct state funding to pay for its investment programme. Transforming Dublin Airport is a 10-year programme, but passengers are already enjoying the benefits of new facilities that have been delivered. Area 14, the new lower ground floor check-in area opened in May 2007, and the new Pier D boarding facility opened in October of that year. We are currently hard at work building Terminal Two, which is the centrepiece of the Transforming programme. Work started on T2 in October 2007 and we look forward to welcoming you to the new terminal when it opens to the public in November 2010. These new facilities will allow Dublin Airport to comfortably handle up to 35 million passengers per year and will create a vibrant modern airport that will be an efficient gateway to the Ireland of the 21st century. |
