The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) welcomes this morning’s decision of EU Transport Ministers, concerning Open Skies.
The decision lends even greater urgency to the need to complete the DAA’s new passenger terminal (T2) at Dublin Airport within the next three years, and a new runway shortly thereafter
Each of these major transport infrastructure projects is currently at the appeals stage of the planning process. Their timely delivery is required to ensure Dublin Airport has the passenger and airfield capacity to manage the additional long-haul traffic the Open Skies environment will generate.
One key feature of T2 will be a new US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility that will enable departing passengers from Dublin Airport clear US customs before they take their flights. This facility, which will also be available at Shannon Airport, will be unique in Europe to the two Irish airports and should generate additional transatlantic traffic between Ireland and the US.
