Dublin Airport submits first party appeal concerning conditions attached to construction of new runway

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has submitted a first party appeal concerning a number of the conditions attached to the granting by Fingal County Council of planning permission for a new runway at Dublin Airport.

In all, 39 conditions were attached to the granting of planning permission by Fingal County Council’s Planning Department.

While the DAA has  welcomed the overall decision to grant permission for the development of a new runway, it has decided to lodge an appeal so as to try to avoid duplication of some conditions and to seek clarification with respect to others.

Permission to construct a new east-west runway, 1.6 kilometres to the north and parallel to the existing main runway, at Dublin Airport was granted by Fingal County Council on 12th April last.

The construction of a new runway at Dublin Airport is a vital component of the overall future development plans to enable the Airport to handle in excess of 30 million passengers per annum.

The DAA has committed not to bring the new runway into operation until it has achieved maximum usage of the existing runway network. Based on the current business plans of the major airlines based at Dublin Airport, the new runway may need to be operational by 2012.
