The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) has appointed Jack MacGowan to the newly-created position of Commercial Director, DAA. Mr MacGowan, who is currently based in the UK as Stores and Non-Food Marketing Director, Tesco Plc, will have specific responsibility for growing the DAA’s existing commercial revenue streams and developing new commercial opportunities for the company.
“We are delighted to secure the services of someone with Jack’s extensive commercial and marketing experience across many different product areas and geographical markets, “ said Declan Collier, Chief Executive DAA.
“The DAA is about to embark on a €1.2bn capital development programme to provide much-needed capacity at Dublin Airport. In this context and in an environment where the company’s aviation and ancillary revenues are tightly constrained by regulatory price caps, it is vital that our various commercial operations are managed to the highest international standards and that we develop and maximise new commercial revenue opportunities.”
Jack MacGowan has worked with Tesco since July 2002 and has been based at the retail group’s UK headquarters in Hertfordshire since last February as Stores and Non-Food Market Director. In this capacity he has been closely involved in the development and design of new, expanded and refurbished retail space for Tesco and in developing customer strategy for the Group’s non-food and Express Stores operations.
Prior to this role, he served as Head of Marketing, Tesco Ireland, where specific initiatives for which he had responsibility included, marketing of the group’s online retail operations and co-ordination of the Tesco Personal Finance business.
From 1996 to 2002, he worked with Diageo in a range of senior consumer marketing positions across a number of countries. These positions included, Ready to Drink Director of Diageo’s UDV spirits operations in the United States; Commercialisation Director of Ready to Drink operations based in London and Greece; and from 1996 to 1998, Global Strategy Manager & Vice President for Russia of Diageo’s high-profile Smirnoff vodka brand.
He served as a London-based senior associate with the international business consultancy firm, McKinsey & Company from 1993 to 1996. He also worked as a consultant with the MAC Group in London in the early 1990s and prior to that role, as a Marketing Manager with Shell UK.
Jack MacGowan is from Dublin and has an Engineering Degree from Trinity College Dublin, where he graduated in 1985. He subsequently studied for a Masters Degree in Control Engineering at Cambridge University and completed an MBA at the Wharton School of Business in the US in the early 1990s. His recreational interests include cycling, rugby, photography, golf and travel.
